Position Description:

The primary purpose of your job description is to provide direct support services to DD individuals receiving services from Muskingum Residentials, Inc. This includes providing support services for individuals residing in Muskingum Residentials Inc.’s (MRI) licensed group homes, providing support services for individuals receiving respite services, and/or providing support services in an individual’s own home. As the front line professional, you are responsible for maintaining the standard of the quality of service delivery. You are under the direct supervision of the DSPFacility Manager, with the expectation that you will follow and adhere to all rules, regulations, and policies set forth by governing agencies and MRI.


  1. Assist each resident in daily personal hygiene/personal care functions as specified on ISP.
  2. Assures each resident is neat, clean, and dressed appropriately at all times.
  3. Assist each resident in completing home maintenance/housekeeping functions as specified on ISP.
  4. Assist residents in following prescribed dietary restrictions, if any.
  5. Plan and implements leisure activities consistent with the individuals’ ISP and with expressed interests.
  6. Intervene as directed in maladaptive behaviors, following behavior support plans and/or support/interventions as specified in ISP.
  7. Use only approved and appropriate techniques when providing behavioral support.
  8. Accompany residents to medical appointments as directed.
  9. Inform supervisor of any change in resident condition, including complaints of illness and observed change in condition.
  10. Follow established procedures and protocols in the event of any medical emergency.
  11. Follow established procedures for completing incident reports and reporting unusual and major unusual incidents.
  12. With Medication Administration Certification Training; Assist each resident in the administration of medications as indicated in ISP.
  13. Implement all Home maker/personal care services as specified in ISP.
  14. Provide support to achieve the individual Outcomes as specified in ISP.
  15. Attend ISP and other meetings as requested.
  16. Make recommendations for program and service delivery changes as indicated to meet the interest and needs of each individual.
  17. Create and maintain an atmosphere of encouragement and support for all residents.
  18. Create and maintains a friendly atmosphere for all residents and visitors.
  19. Act as a positive Role Model in interactions, communication and work ethic.
  20. Communicate with family members regarding client issues.
  21. Inform supervisor of any new family or social information, potential problem areas, areas of concern raised by family, etc.
  22. Serve as a good Role Model for residents by displaying courtesy and respect.


One year experience working with DD clients preferred, but not required.


  • Must be a minimum of eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language with proficiency to be understood by others and comprehend what others are communication; including with people that do not use words as their primary mode of communication.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress required to maintain good professional judgment to address ongoing and novel concerns that may occur throughout the day.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to tactfully address and discuss concerns with Individuals, family members and friends, peers, personnel from other agencies and the County Board, government or oversight agencies/personnel, and the general public.
  • Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with professionals and nonprofessionals.
  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the supports, Outcomes, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary to implement the ISP.
  • Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
  • Must be a positive role model in all aspects of social interactions, attitude. Present the positive aspects and attitude toward work and responsibility; refrain from belittling or negatively commenting about others.


  • Must be able to move continually throughout the workday.
  • Ability stands, be on your feet, bend, lift, and move continually during working hours (shift can be up to 16 hours).
  • Must possess sight/hearing or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
  • May be required to lift residents, medical equipment, etc. in excess of seventy (70) or more pounds. Transfer individuals that may assist or may not be able to bear weight.
  • Assist people to walk that may need almost total assistance; propel wheelchairs up and down grades.
  • Ability to go up and down stairs throughout the shift.
  • Ability to get on the floor and up to assist people that have fallen or perform first aid.
  • The ability to walk up to 1 mile to attend appointments.
  • Ability to participate in physical activity, games etc to lead and participate in outdoor activities and games.

Travel Involved:

Typically around town or the area for Community Life Experience. Travel to appoints that may take you into Columbus OH or into Perry Co.


Hourly starting at $13hour, OT available. PTO accrual at the end of a 90 probation 160 a month, increases over time. Health Insurance with minimal employee expense $50.00 a month. 7 Paid Holidays. Bonuses
